Singapore’s Novotel Clarke Quay Eyes Burgeoning Meetings and Exhibition Market

Novotel Clarke Quay is expecting to garner its share of the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) market with its high-end facilities in Singapore, a country well-respected for hospitality toward corporate and political leaders.

November 27, 2008 (FPRC) -- Singapore, With competition heating up, the Singapore government has pledged S$170 million (US$112 million) until 2010 for its MICE industry, and the Novotel Clarke Quay stands poised to reap the benefits of the city-state’s reputation as a business-friendly meeting center.

The global financial crisis is expected to usher in a period of more prudent spending by corporations that will cause cuts in business travel, but from all indications Singapore’s MICE sector is simply too lucrative to ignore.

Singapore recently hosted ITB Asia — the inaugural sister event of the world’s biggest travel trade fair, ITB Berlin, organized by Messe Berlin — attracting about 6,000 delegates to the Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

“The world’s travel professionals have turned out in force, despite, or even because of, economic uncertainties,” said Raimund Hosch, chief executive of Messe Berlin. “ITB Asia is the perfect platform to plan and prepare for the recovery to come.”

While North America and Europe struggle with the economic turmoil, Asia remains an attractive destination for corporate gatherings. Last year, Asia’s conventions and exhibitions industry hosted 1,732 trade fairs generating US$3.25 billion in revenue, according to figures from UFI, the global association of the exhibition industry.

Asia’s top five MICE markets, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, put on 300 events pulling in US$587 million. Those in the industry say that few major events have been cancelled.

With more than 400 suites that cater to both the tourist and businessperson, Novotel Clarke Quay’s conference rooms can hold between 30 and 600 people, and each is tastefully furnished with comfortable seating and individual worktables. The Dragon Phoenix Room in particular can double up as a beautiful dining room before becoming a conference center.

The Business Lounge situated at the top of the hotel provides every possible amenity for smoothly run conferences and exhibitions. Each meeting can be specifically customized to meet any and all demands and requests.

Novotel Clarke Quay’s highly trained and courteous staff will ensure corporate meetings go off without a hitch. Employees are fully conversant in many languages and are on hand at all times.

Essential equipment such as overhead projectors, in-house sound systems, lapel microphones, monitors, display boards, and the latest in broadband Internet facilities are available.
