Brian Solis and Stowe Boyd Introduce MicroPR, a PR Resource for Journalists, Analysts and Bloggers on Twitter

Free service uses micromedia to improve the communications channel between media and PR

 Print View

Sunnyvale, Calif. – November 25, 2008 – Social media pioneers Brian Solis and Stowe Boyd have joined forces to introduce MicroPR, twitter.com/micropr, a new and highly effective PR resource that connects journalists, bloggers, and analysts with qualified sources for their stories and reports through Twitter. MicroPR is an efficient, unobtrusive, targeted, and timely way to connect with sources for a more productive and improved workflow.

Solis is principal of FutureWorks PR and author of the blog PR2.0. Boyd is founder and front man of The /Messengers. Both Solis and Boyd are experts in their respective fields and are highly sought after speakers for industry conferences and events.

MicroPR is a free service on Twitter, along with a backend resource wiki (www.m1cr0pr.com) that helps journalists and bloggers find qualified, targeted PR professionals who can help with their current stories.

How It Works
Writers looking for help with story development can simply send a tweet with their request to @micropr (i.e. @micropr Need startup recommendations for story on new micromedia tools. Reply via public tweet to @reportername).

A knowledgeable PR person following the MicroPR feed will see a writer’s request and respond directly via the writer’s preferred channel. The media is also able to block PR people who do not follow the preferred contact mode or abuse the @micropr channel in other ways.

Why It Works Better than Traditional PR
MicroPR advocates a shift from Public Relations’ traditional broadcast pitch methodology to one of active listening and individual response. Writers can use micromedia to invite the community to help crowdsource elements of a story – streamlining the process of story development, reducing research time, and improving a story’s quality and accuracy.

In addition, MicroPR also helps channel information – such as sharing relevant beats or calls for speaker or award submissions – to a very focused list of savvy and connected PR professionals.

Communications, PR, and analyst relations professionals can follow @microPR on Twitter. Journalists, reporters, bloggers, analysts, and anyone looking for the help of someone in PR can tweet @microPR with their request.
